A man is in the woods in the fall of the year. There is a crossroad before him. He is worried that he has to finally make a decision to choose one road.
He stands for a long time pondering which path to choose. He considered both paths and came to the conclusion that both are equally well-travelled. Eventually, he chooses one of the paths, assuring himself that one day he will come back and explore the other one. Soon he realises that he would probably not get a chance to come back to this path.
The poet ends on a nostalgic note, thinking how different or better things would have been if he had chosen the other path.
