A good descriptive essay includes vivid sensory details that paint a picture and appeals to the reader’s sense of sight, hearing touch, smell and taste when appropriate. The figurative language that helps you use sensory detail is imagery. 
Here are five types of imagery, 
Imagery using visuals: 
It describes what we see where ever we go, whoever we meet. The first sensory organ is our eyes.
authors want to share their visual experiences with their readers.
for example, the stary night and twinkling stars made everyone spellbound.
Imagery using sounds:
Imagery using sounds is called auditory imagery. It is used to organise & analyse sounds when there is no external auditory stimulus present.
Imagery using sent: 
Imagery using sent is called olfactory imagery. It describes what we smell for example aroma of freshly baked bread. The sweet smell of ripe mango
Imagery using taste: 
Imagery using taste is called gustatory imagery. It describes salty, sweet, bitter or acidic taste.
Tactile imagery: 
It describes what we touch or feel. It also stimulates the reader’s imagination. For example, The bed was soft.
