How to compose a summary?


In this video, we will discuss how to write a successful summary in academic English. Students will learn the important do’s and don’ts of summary writing. They will be able to read a text and summarize it more effectively.

summary begins with an explanatory sentence that affirms the text’s title, author and the main point of the text. A summary is composed in your own words. A summary comprises only the ideas of the initial text. Don’t include any of your own opinions, interpretations, deductions or comments in a summary.

A great summary should give an objective outline of the whole piece of writing. It should answer basic questions about the original text such as “Who did what, where, and when?”

“What is the main idea of the text?”

“What are the main supporting points?”

“What are the major pieces of evidence?
