Overfishing is a significant theme of the novel “White Dolphin” written by Gill Lewis. The story is set in a fishing community in Cornwall, England that is suffering economically due to overfishing and marine habitat destruction. The writer has very successfully portrayed how our natural resources are depleting rapidly. Dougie Evans and other businessmen bring their heavy trawlers into the deep ocean and hunt on a larger scale. Kara’s mother was a marine biologist and sea animal rescuer. She fully condemned this act of cruelty and raised her voice against illegal fishing. Kara has an emotional attachment to the sea and all the innocent animals living in it. She played a vital role in signing the petition and saved the future of the town.

Disability

Disability is a significant theme of the novel “White Dolphin” written by Gill Lewis. Kara and her father are dyslexic. Felix has Cerebral Palsy and has difficulty moving around. Both of the youngsters become the epitome of courage and bravery. They show through their steadfastness that nothing is impossible if you are determined to achieve anything. Both of them saves two precious lives and moulded the brutal heart of Dougie Evans. Kara saved the life of a baby albino dolphin with the help of Felix and made an example for other school children. 

Resource Depletion

 Resource Depletion is a significant theme of the novel “White Dolphin” written by Gill Lewis. The story is set in a fishing community in Cornwall, England that is suffering economically due to overfishing and marine habitat destruction. Some powerful and influential trawler owners in the town do fishing on a larger scale. As a result, the number of sea animals is rapidly decreasing. The whole food chain is at risk, but unfortunately, few people raise their voices against trawler owners.
